Entry requirements
- For French nationals, from the European Union, a passport valid 6 months after the return date must be presented, accompanied by a return air ticket.
- For American nationals, a passport valid 6 months after the date of return must be presented, accompanied by a return or onward ticket not exceeding 1 month after the date of arrival.
Quantity of duty-free products allowed
Youcan carry up to 200 cigarettes (i.e. 2 cartons), or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250 g of smoking tobacco and 1.2 liters of alcohol.
Health
No vaccinations are required, unless you're coming from an area at risk of disease. However, it's always wise to be up to date with your DT-polio and hepatitis A (or even B) booster shots, and to be in possession of repatriation insurance - some hospitals require payment before providing treatment. Tap water is safe to drink.
Climate
The climate is notably drier than most of the other West Indian islands - even during the wet season, which runs from June to November. This period, known as the wintering season, is also when hurricanes pass through. Temperatures range from 23°C in winter to 31°C in summer.
Currency
Theofficial currency is the Caribbean EC dollar. US dollars, traveler's checks and credit cards are accepted everywhere.The exchange rate (as of May 2013) is 1.00$ US = 2.67 EC$.Its value (world exchange rate) 1€ = 3.20 EC$, (as of May) according to the exchange rate of the day.
Time zone
The time zone in the Caribbean is UTC -04:00 (Universal Time).
There is a 6-hour time difference in winter and a 5-hour difference in summer with the European time zone Paris CET (Central European Time).
Electricity
Electricityis 230 V, 60 cycles. The plugs are the same as in England, with three flat pins (the top one vertical, the bottom two horizontal). American 110 V, 60-cycle sockets are also available in hotels. Remember to take an adapter with you to recharge your electrical equipment.
