MauritiusIn a few words
Between the sky and the Indian Ocean, in the heart of the Mascareignes archipelago, Mauritius nestles between Reunion Island, 200 km to the west, and Rodrigues to the east.
With its tropical gardens by the sea, its lagoons ranging from turquoise blue to emerald green, protected by the coral reef, and its 100 km of fine sandy beaches lined with coconut palms and filaos, Mauritius is a true invitation to the sweet life and to meet a rainbow people. If paradise exists, perhaps it's here!
Let yourself be seduced by this charming, multi-faceted island.
The island's population, a veritable cultural mosaic, numbers around 1.2 million. With origins in the East, West and Africa, it has preserved its ancestral religious and folk traditions down the ages. The capital, Port-Louis, is located on the west coast. The highest point is the Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, 828 m high.
The island's gentle terrain has long favored the cultivation of sugar cane and tea. The Dutch used to make rum from this sugar cane, a tradition that has remained firmly rooted on the island, which boasts a number of local rum brands.
